HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO BRING A CLAIM?

All claims have a statute of limitations (the time within which you must bring a claim). Most negligence claims must be brought within two (2) years of the date of the event, but there are various exceptions to this rule. For example, if you are bringing a claim against a government such as a City, County or State, or a department within a governmental entity such as the police department, a school district or County owned facility, you must file a Notice of Claim within 180 days. Thereafter, you have to file a lawsuit within one (1) year. Other special rules apply to filing deadlines and you should call for a consultation to determine your rights before it is too late.
