Slip and fall refers to a wide variety of accidents that can occur as a result of dangerous or hazardous conditions on someone else’s property. Falls can cause many injuries including serious brain and spinal cord injuries. Depending on the severity of the injury, medical expenses and loss of wages can lead to significant financial strain.

Falls can be the result of temporary conditions such as water, snow or ice; or the result of more permanent conditions like poor flooring, holes/gaps in flooring or ground, or poor lighting. If the fall occurred on someone else’s property, the land owner or business owner may be held liable if the fall resulted in an injury. The conditions that caused the injury could be obvious, like a broken stair, or more hidden, such as a hole covered with leaves.

The land owner or business proprietor can be held liable if they had knowledge of the hazardous condition and adequate time to resolve the condition, but were negligent in doing so.
